Ideas For Medium Length Hairstyles

by Rebecca Gingerich | May 15, 2012

We have all, at one point, had medium haircut. Think of a time when your hair wasn’t considered short, but also wasn’t long. It seems that medium hair styles are the most challenging for women to handle. If it’s at the shoulder, no matter what you do it curls out. If it’s just past the shoulders, you can’t seem to keep it from taking on a triangle shape. So what do you do?

Being in the hair business for a number of years, the first thing I would suggest is to make sure you have layers. This is for those ladies who want to stick with medium length and for those who are growing it out.

Hair layers will make the longest portion of your hair look thinner, and thus, it will take away from it. In other words, layers will emphasize the parts of your hair that you have full control over.

In this picture of Jessica Simpson, you see how the bottom just slightly flips out while the other hair layers stay how she chose to style them.

Another great option for medium length hair, and one of my personal favorites, is a long A-line. When you do this, you get to choose what length you want your front portion to hit, while making the rest angle up so that it just brushes against your shoulders. You will not have issues with the “curl out” factor.

Lauren Conrad A Line HairThis haircut tends to scare people because we see a lot of ladies out there go dramatic with the angle. You don’t have to do that. Just let your hair stylist know that you want a slight one and why you’re looking to get one in the first place.

Look at Lauren’s medium hairstyle. If you look closely, you will also notice that she has a slight A-line. Her hair angels right up and over her shoulders looking classy as always.

There are multitudes of hairstyles for medium hair. It looks great up or down. Once you figure out which medium length cut works best for you, you will find that it is really one of the easiest lengths to maintain. Heavy product or curling is not needed, but it will look great if you want to go that extra mile! Remember to have fun with your hair and try new things. It always grows back!!

If you are looking for a fancier way to style this length you’re in luck. This length allows for the most versatility when it comes to up-do’s. You can go all down and look glamorous, or half up which will get you that wow factor. It is the perfect way to show off your face and your beautiful hair. Even all up won’t be a hassle for you. In fact, there are several easy updos that you can take advantage of, some of which make for the best bridal hairstyles!

The length of the hair isn’t too long or too short for almost any style. I enjoy pulling one side back with bobby pins and leaving the rest down. This option is beautiful both for curled or straight hair. It also only takes about two seconds and no hassle! Good luck!!!
